Genital Injury – Female

Problems derived from the vagina in women are often more common than desirable. Why do punctures occur in the vagina?

If you feel pricking in the vagina, this can be a symptom of vaginal inflammation or vaginitis, which is very common, but must be treated. This condition is caused by an infection, a bacterial imbalance, or fungi in the vagina, such as yeast infection. Genital herpes also causes pain that causes a prickling sensation, as well as fever and ulcers.

What diseases cause punctures in the vagina?

Vaginitis

Vaginitis is the most common cause of these complaints. It is an inflammation that causes an imbalance in vaginal bacteria and fungi, which causes irritation, itching, foul-smelling discharge, punctures in the vagina, pain during sexual intercourse and sometimes bleeding.

Atrophic vaginitis

Atrophic vaginitis is a variety that causes vaginal dryness and irritation, symptoms caused by the reduction of vaginal fluids during menopause.

Candidiasis

Another of its common causes is a vaginal infection caused by the fungus “Candida Albicans”. Fungi live naturally in the lining of the vagina, but if they multiply excessively they cause infections. The main symptom is thick vaginal discharge, itching, burning in the vagina, and occasionally punctures or pricks.

Bacterial vaginosis

In the same way as fungal infections, this bacterial infection is generated by an imbalance of microorganisms. In this case, the bacterium “Gardnerella vaginalis” multiplies in excess. Often it causes a grayish discharge with a strong fishy odor, discomfort, and occasionally punctures.

Trichomonas

Infection with the Trichomonas parasite is a vaginal inflammation characterized by pain around the vagina and foul-smelling discharge. It is an infection that is transmitted during sexual intercourse.

How to treat vaginal infections

In all cases of vaginal infections it is necessary to go to a gynecologist, as it is the only way to really know what type of infection is causing vaginal punctures and how is the best way to treat it.

Meanwhile, intimate irritation can be relieved by using a pH-regulated gel, which helps to restore the acidic environment of the intimate area. However, it must be borne in mind that these gels do not cure the infection, but rather relieve discomfort.

Good intimate hygiene is essential to prevent infection and avoid bacteria and fungi. Also very important is protection during sexual contact and avoiding the use of tight underwear or pantyhose, which increase humidity and create an environment prone to bacteria and fungi.

For vaginitis, there are some over-the-counter medications, such as lactic acid pills and suppositories, that boost defenses and help fight infection.
